Wolves In The Throne Room: Celestite LP

Wolves in The Throne Room (Washington) felt like they left unexplored territory on their 2011 album, Celestial Linage. Focussing on the “subterranean sonics buried in the mix”, Celestite delves deep into a mammoth ensemble of synths and effects to produce an instrumental journey into an unearthly and experimental soundscape.

Released in 2014 by their own label, Artemisia Records, the band were aided by producer Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Earth, Master Musicians Of Bukkake).

“On Wolves in the Throne Room's earliest releases, they repurposed the furor of black metal, reshaping its sprints into half-marathons and adding classical overtones. Their latest foregoes the former volume and tempo for a liminal mix of synthesizers and beat machines, droning guitars and cascading horns.” — Pitchfork

“Celestite is not only the expansion of the wandering melodies that once laced the background of their more atmospheric numbers, it is the progression of the band’s attitude towards music.” — Sputnik Music

“…they are now enablers of specific atmospheres, able to handhold a listener through incredibly dense forest in very low light.” — The Quietus
